On Horror...
My first review.
Seven Days:
It’s my personal opinion that in the last 10 years the French have really taken the horror movie genre up a notch.  This movie is no exception.  It’s a classic retelling of something at the bottom of all human brains: How far would you go for revenge?
The main character is a surgeon who lives a normal uneventful life with his wife, and 8 year old daughter, until one day (Rob Schneider durp da durp… thanks South Park) his daughter disappears and is found later brutally raped and murdered.  The wife blames the husband, the husband blames the wife, tensions rise.  Luckily though, the killer is caught very quickly after the crime.  This is where the real movie begins.
Without giving too much away, the father of the girl meticulously puts together a plan to kidnap the murderer, torture him for seven days, killing the murderer on the seventh day, then turning himself in to the police.
It sounds like your regular torture/porn movie, but delivers so much more.  I found this movie to be much more about morality and the boundary between justice and what is humanly acceptable.
Everyone in the movie has mixed feelings about the father kidnapping his daughter’s murderer, including the police force.  This weighs heavily on the police chief, whose wife was murdered six months earlier.  The father continually asks the police chief how he feels knowing that his wife’s murderer will eventually be free to roam the streets again.
All morality and humanity shit aside, this movie delivers the goods as far as violence and gore.  If you want to watch a movie where a dude literally gets the shit kicked out of him for a good hour and a half that’s not “The Passion of The Christ” (Which personally I didn’t enjoy… I already knew how it was going to end) I’d say this is probably going to satisfy you.
Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed this movie.  Violence, morality, gore, and smarts.  Also did I mention there is absolutely no music the whole movie?
Go watch this, and also, if you’re planning on raping and murdering a small child, make sure their father is not a surgeon.
